Jan’s paintings are as much about surface as they are about color. Their texture catches light differently as the day changes, so a single piece can shift from bold to subdued between morning and evening. Ranging up to four feet across, they carry the energy of the high country: the vertical rhythm of a stand of trees, the weight of a storm gathering over the peaks, the warmth of autumn settling into a hillside. None of it is literal, and all of it is Colorado.
